14 DAY HELLO GREECE
Day 1 Sunday Departure homeport
Finally time to set off on your adventure! We’ll let you know when and where your flights are. Get your camera ready!
Day 2 Monday Arrive in Athens
Touch down! You’ve landed into Athens. You will have an arrival transfer from the airport to your hotel once you have checked into your hotel, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy! You might be jetlagged but trust us, it’s easier to just hold off on sleeping ‘til night time - while you’re here in Greece why not try one of those foam-covered iced coffees the locals are drinking? It’s called a frappe. It’s delicious!
Day 3 Tuesday Athens-Olympia
Alright - you’ve done Athens. Time to see the rest of Greece! We drive via the Corinth Canal for a shot photo-op-stop (say that three times fast). We’ll continue on to Epidaurus and visit the ancient theatre, then on to Nafplion for lunch (own expense) - you may be a bit tired of the souvlaki (though trust us - we’re not!) so you could always go traditional and try a pistachio. (Not really. We mean pastitsio.)
Not far from Nafplion is Mycenae, where you can visit the archaeological site which is home to the famous Beehive Tombs - your tour guide will walk you through and tell you what is known about the site, as well as where it got its brilliant name. You’ll also have a chance to visit the best-preserved tomb among the beehives, the Tomb of Agamemnon.
Once you’re finished you’ll arrive into Olympia in the late afternoon for an overnight stay. Take this opportunity to check out Zorba’s Ancient Olympia! Great views and great cocktails - c’mon, what more could you ask for? (B.D)
Day 4 Wednesday Olympia-Delphi
We’ll properly visit the site of Olympia today! Home of the ancient Olympic Games and located in the western Peloponnese, you’ll love this place (especially if your name is Zeus - there’s a massive statue). We start our journey to Delphi. Along the way you’ll want to take your camera out to snap some pics of the beautiful landscape as we drive through the winding roads of Greece. Don’t forget dinner!(B.D)
Day 5 Thursday Delphi-Kalambaka
At the foot of Mount Parnassos is Delphi, which housed one of the most famous oracles of Ancient Greece and is home to the breathtaking Temple of Apollo. The ancient Greeks believed this site was the centre of the Earth. Have any questions for the oracle?
Tonight we’ll eat in the Monastic town of Kalambaka, where you’ll see the sweeping lights leaping off the great, rounded boulders, reaching for the sky. They really make this area shine.
Hint: Take a walk through the main city. There’s only one main road - you can’t get lost! (B.D)
Day 6 Friday Kalambaka-Athens
Those beautiful boulders aren’t just for looking at. Today we’ll scale them by car to visit two different Byzantine Monasteries, which earned themselves a spot on the list of World Cultural Heritage monuments, because of how uniquely and harmoniously they match their architecture to the natural beauty of the landscape. If you’ve seen the movie 300 (or want to have a look before we disembark!), you’ll be reminded of some scenes as we pass through the town where the battle of Leonidas against the Parsians took place. The movie is based on this - you’ll even see the monument of the King of Sparta!
We’ll arrive back in Athens fairly late in the evening, so try to catch up on some sleep and be ready for our island cruise tomorrow. (B)
Day 7 Saturday Athens
You have a free morning to explore Athens on your own. Helen's hint: Want some retail therapy? Go for a walk down Ermou Street. Here you will find all the major retail stores like Zara and H&M.
Day 8 Sunday Athens
Good morning Athens! Get ready to see this diverse and cultural city with a sightseeing tour. We start at the site of where the first modern Olympics took place in 1896, Panathinaiko Stadium and the UNESCO’S world heritage site of Acropolis. We then continue with a coach panoramic tour and see the Ex Royal Palace, Roman Temple of Olympian Zeus, St Pauls Church, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and much more! We return to the hotel in the afternoon and the rest of the day will be at your own leisure.
Day 9 Monday Athens cruising to Mykonos
This morning you’ll need to make your own way down to Pireaus Port (give a taxi a go - it’s a staple of the modern traveler). Try to reach it by 9:00am if you want to get a chance to check in early and avoid the crowds! Today you’ll be travelling to Mykonos, a cosmoplitan paradise. Famous for its beaches and vibrant nightlife, you’ll find all kinds of people on Mykonos’s shores - tourists, artists, socialites and even celebrities!
Day 10 Tuesday Mykonos/Kusadasi (Turkey)-Patmos
Kusadasi is a beach resort town known for its beautiful marina and colourful bazaar - mostly, though, it’s famous for its proximity to the Hellenistic ruins of Ephusus. Ephusus is an ancient city, famed for the Temple of Artemis - one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Today you’ll be treated to a shore excursion of Ancient Ephusus through the ages of Hellenistic/Roman times. In the afternoon we’ll depart for the island of Patmos, where many believe Saint John the Evangelist wrote the book of revelations in a small, mountainside grotto.
Enjoy the beautiful island of Patmos at your own leisure.
Day 11 Wednesday Rhodes
Rhodes! The largest of Greece’s Dodecanese islands, Rhodes is known for its beach resorts and ancient ruins - the knights of St John stayed here during the Crusades! We’ll spend a full day here; you can choose to explore on your own or join an included shore excursion for a medieval tour, including the Acropolis of Lindos and the Citadel of the knights.
Day 12 Thursday Crete (Heraklion)-Santorini
See a former Venetian harbour with representative architecture, art and an Archaeological Museum with invaluable treasures. The city is just a short (included) cruise to the Minoan Palace of Knossos, home to Europe’s oldest civilization and the setting of the legend of Theseus and the Minotaur. Once you’ve had a look around we’ll depart for the picturesque island of Santorini. You’ll have an included shore excursion of the Oia village, perched on the Caldera Rim. Your journey through Athens may be over, but don’t worry ... you can always come back ;)
Day 13 Friday Arrival Athens
Kalo taxidi - safe travels! Remember Greece isn’t going anywhere. You know that, but it was so beautiful - it’s sad to leave. You’ll have to come back one day!
Today you’ll transfer to Athens Airport to catch your flight back home - or somewhere else in the world! Add a stop-over. Go on. Ask us how!
