15 DAY GREEK ISLAND HOPPING TOUR
Day 1 Tuesday Departure from Australia
Finally time to set off on your adventure! We’ll let you know when and where your flights are. Get your camera ready!
Day 2 Wednesday Arrive in Athens
Touch down! You’ve landed at Athens International Airport. Once you get checked into your hotel, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy! You might be jetlagged but trust us, it’s easier to just hold off on sleeping ‘til night time - while you’re here in Greece why not try one of those foam-covered iced coffees the locals are drinking? It’s called a frappe. It’s delicious!
Day 3 Thursday Athens - Santorini
GAfter a delicious breakfast today you’ll transfer to Piraeus port, to board your ferry over to the stunning Island of Santorini. Santorini sits on the Aegean Sea roughly halfway between Athens and Crete - you’ll be awed by its trademark landscape, developed thousands of years ago in one fell swoop by a volcanic eruption that sank the centre of the island and left the steep cliffs and breathtaking seascape you see today.
Today’s a day to spend at leisure - make sure you check out the many restaurants dotted along the port or visit the breathtaking, white-washed buildings along the island’s west, perched atop the dizzying heights of Santorini’s famous cliffs.
Day 4 Friday Santorini
The next couple of days are yours to spend at your leisure as you come to be acquainted with the island of Santorini. If you’re like us you might be thrilled to find that Santorini is home to the (in)famous assyrtiko grape, responsible for a beautiful, amber-coloured dessert wine called Vinsanto, as well as several white, dry wines. There’s nothing better than trying a bottle from its birthplace - these people know how to get the best out of every sip!
If you’ve already had a go at the wines then also be sure to check out the ancient remains of a Minoan city on display at the site of Akrotiri. A volcanic eruption in 1613BC brought this city to its knees, and it was not rediscovered until 1967AD - that’s over three thousand years later! The excavations are ongoing and the thrill of discovery is still fresh and as lively as ever. This isn’t one you’ll want to miss.
You’ve only got a couple of days on this beautiful island, so make sure you stop by Oia come nightfall, to witness the beauty of Santorini’s sunset - it’s truly one in a million.
Day 5 Saturday Santorini
To do list -
* Wake up
* Have breakfast
* Do absolutely nothing but lay by the pool
* Maybe have a cocktail
* Have a Nap
Day 6 Sunday Santorini to Paros
Right! One island down, two more to go - you’ll be treated to a delicious breakfast and then you’re on your way to Santorini Port, to transfer over to the wonderful, historic island of Paros. Paros is one of the lesser-known gems of Greece; you’ll be one of the few tourists who remember to stop by this beautiful island, whose white marble has been hailed for its beauty from day one. Parian marble was used to carve Napolean’s tomb!
Day 7 Monday Paros
We know, we know: you want to explore on your own. Don’t worry. We’ve got you covered. You’re free to experience Paros all on your own for the next couple of days, though we’ll check in to make sure you’ve got something yum to eat in the mornings. There are a whole host of sighteseeing opportunities spotted all across Paros; our top pick is the well-known archaeological museum, which includes a piece of the third-century BC history book called the Parian Chronicle!
You might also like the Frankish Kastro, a set of ruins in Parikia. Built by the Duke Marco Sanudo of Naxus in the mid 13th century, you’ll spot ancient temples and crumbling, ancient stone among these remnants - someome put those stones in place, centuries ago. That was somebody’s day’s work, and (some of) it still stands today!
There are also a variety of sailing tours available - plan ahead! :)
Day 8 Tuesday Paros
Day of Pleasure during your day of Leisure!
Day 9 Wednesday Paros to Mykonos
Goodbye, Paros! We’ll miss you! We’re headed off to Mykonos today, another Greek island well worth checking out. Catch your ferry over, wave goodbye to Paros and be ready to enjoy a whole new island!
Day 10 Thursday Mykonos
Mykonos is known for its glamour, and the moment you step foot on the island you will be able to see why. This island’s got a bit of a mix of tourists, party-goers and celebtirites with more money than you can poke a stick at - and they all make for a thriving, bustling city! With the next two days to spend at your leisure in Mykonos, you’ll want to take advantage of the sprawling stalls, the hip restaurants and the seemingly endless party - everybody’s here to enjoy themselves. In the hotter months, the beaches (with crystal-clear waters!) are packed and the hotels are booked, and Mykonos is a paradise all of its own.
Day 11 Friday Mykonos
If you’re looking for a bit of peace and quiet you might want to try Agios Sostis up on the north coast, a lovely strip of white which seems lesser-known than the rest of the island - you’ll have space to breathe! You may also enjoy a photo op with the Panagia Paraportiani, a bleached white church comprising four chapels; although the interior’s usually off-limits to the public, tourists still line up to get a pic with this important landmark of Mykonos culture.
Mykonos isn’t the sort of island to end with a whimper - no matter what you do, it will end in a bang.
Day 12 Saturday Mykonos to Athens
It’s time to move onto Athens, at last! Transfer to the port to be ready to catch your ferry over, and try not to jealously eye the people who get another couple days on this beautiful island. You’re on to bigger and better things - we promise!
Day 13: Sunday - Athens
Good morning, Athens! Enjoy your breakfast :) Today you’ll set out on a sightseeing tour, to - well, sight-see, in this diverse and beautiful city. We start at the Panathinaiko Stadium, the site of the first modern Olympics in 1896 - we’ll also stop by UNESCO’s world-heritage listed site of the Acropolis. Once you’ve had a chance to check them out we’ll continue on a coach panoramic tour to see the Ex-Royal Palace, the Roman Temple of Olympian Zeus, St Paul’s Church, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and much more! We’ll return to the hotel in the afternoon so you can unwind and start sending you friends photos to make them jealous.
Day 14: Monday- Depart Athens
Reality kicks in. The last two weeks have been absolutely amazing and you’ve hopefully got a lot of photographs to help remember the experience and the awesome friends you’ve made along the way
